Nieves Perez Ortiz Convicted of Murder for Off Duty Drunken Shooting Former Puerto Rico Police Officer Nieves Perez Ortiz was convicted of murder and sentenced to 104 years in prison for shooting a Dominican immigrant during a drunken argument while off duty. Immigration activists have since been using this case as an example of police brutality and profiling directed at Dominican immigrants. Despite this one conviction, prosecutions of police in Puerto Rico remain rare, certainly far rarer than incidents of abuse by police officers in Puerto Rico. #nievesperezortiz #murder #immigration

Captain Thomas Woodworth Drove His Truck into Protesters and Resigned Former Captain Thomas Woodworth quit his job as a correctional officer at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility after being caught on tape driving his truck through a group of protesters that were sitting or standing on the sidewalk. They were there to protest the facility because it was holding detainees for ICE. They had every right to be there and Woodworth had not right to drive through them. As you can see Captain Woodworth drove up to them before slowly trying to push them away. Then his goons came out and pepper sprayed them.
Woodworth had no compelling reason to drive his truck through people even if he was going slow. Trying to get to the bar after work does not justify diving through people to make it in time for happy hour.

Officer Charles Rispoli Fired After Advocating for AOC Assassination Gretna Police Officer Charles Rispoli was fired for posting a comment online saying that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should be shot and fellow officer Angelo Varisco was fired for liking his post. The police chief said that the incident was embarrassing to the department. It looks like at least one department holds its officers accountable for online activities if those activities are exposed and makes the department look bad.#charlesrispoli #angelovarisco #racism #immigration

IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT IN WOODBURN,OR Early April 2017 action by ICE. I (C.A.S.) was reading about how immigrants and supports of immigrants have been tracking ICE agents in Woodburn, OR using Twitter and fb. Occurred to me that CopBlaster could be extremely useful for tracking ICE agents in the same way, but better perhaps. Twitter and facebook do not aggregate data in the same way that CopBlaster does and don’t have the same search features as CopBlaster does. Their followers will see alerts but other than that their Tweets get buried in news feeds relatively quickly. If people started posting ICE sightings on CopBlaster, others could find them easily by searching the site for reported sightings and updates status as well. Then, a link would be automatically tweeted out and posted on facebook pages run by CopBlaster. then another could tweet on link to their followers or share it with their fb friends using the sharenholic tool on the left side of their browser window or at the bottom if they are using a mobile device. When the advanced tracker is built, CopBlaster will become even more useful. One problem with CopBlaster on social media right now is it is excessively tweeting links to news ad Reddit links about police brutality or misconduct, so much so that much of its followers have been lost due to their news feeds being bombarded. CopBlaster wanted to target relevant law enforcement with hashtags and with content and got a bit carried away. The creator of CopBlaster will fix this problem sometime in the future for easier use. Currently, CopBlaster author is indisposed. #immigration #ice #trump #copspotting

Pam Braithwaite Sent Cop Blaster a Crime Tip Some person going by the name Pam Braithwaite send me a tip accusing her husband of being an undocumented immigrant. Her tip with redacted personal information regarding her husband is as follows:
“My husband is living in Florida near 15 years his name is ####### #### ####### ########### he is using the name #### ##### ####### he do not have his paper work he is living at #### # # ## ##### ########### Florida ##### his phone number is ########## he was born on the ## of November #### his gf name is ######## #### she live at ### ##### #### #### ### Margate Florida ##### her phone number is ########## according to my knowledge we r still marry I do not want him to know I report him plz ”
Why would anyone send something like that to a website like Cop Blaster? The only possible explanation is that she was trying to visit a defunct anti-immigration complaints website that redirects to a page on Cop Blaster (linked to above) announcing that it will not be coming back. Mrs. Braithwaite was obviously online looking for ways to report illegal immigrants, stumbled on a news report about the old website, and ended up here before sending me that tip hoping I might forward it to ICE for her. Even back in the day I would not have done that. I would have sent her a link to a policy on the site saying that Illegal Alien Report did not forward information to law enforcement for people.
Illegal Alien Report was a collection of stories, complaints, etc. about people in countries illegally and those that hire them. People would land on the site doing Google searches for “report illegal aliens” and often they would choose to email the webmaster instead of writing a story. I don’t think they really understood the different context of the word “report.” When used before a phrase (ex: “report crime”) it means to report something to an authority, but when used after the phrase (ex: “crime report”) it means to retroactively write a report about something. In the case of immigration five to seven years ago the law was so rarely enforced that in most cases being an illegal immigrant was no more illegal than most lawful activities, so all opponents could really do was complain about it. That is where Illegal Alien Report gave them a voice. Back then it looked like Obama was going to grant amnesty, which would have made complaint sites like Illegal Alien Report more useful. Now that Trump is actually enforcing immigration laws I decided not to host that type of information anymore. There is a long personal story to this, but the more the police enforce that law, the more useless a site like that becomes, and I have better things to do.
On a personal note, after having met people doing prison time just for crossing the border, I think Mr. Braithwaite would be much better off divorcing Pam and keeping his new girlfriend. It is really messed up for this woman to try to get her husband kicked out of the country or worse just for finding someone better.#pambraithwaite #immigration
Officer Christopher Myers Wrongfully Stopped and Shot My Cellmate In 2014 the Court of Appeals of Washington ruled that Seattle Police Officer Christopher Myers was not justified when he stopped my former cellmate Jose Manuel Cardenas-Muratalla in downtown Seattle in 2010. As a result Manny’s conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm was reversed, but sending an innocent man to prison was not the worst part. Officer Myers also shot Manny for no justifiable reason and appears to still be getting away with that.
I learned about this story when I was Manny’s cellmate at FCI Sheridan from the fall of 2013 until January of 2014. When he told me about this I had to see the paperwork to believe it. He was walking down the street when Myers started harassing him and then shot him. Manny did nothing to threaten Myers. He did have a gun, but it was not loaded, and it did not match the description of the gun that an anonymous tipster had reported someone as having. I believed Manny because no sane person would pull an unloaded gun on a cop. I promised to try to connect with his people upon my release to NWRRC that year, but could not do so due to computer restrictions and catching a new charge for assaulting a staff member. Why was I going to connect with his people? Because Manny said that one of them had a copy of a grainy video showing what really happened. I have still not seen the video, but I think the decision from the Court of Appeals in case No. 680579I issued on February 3, 2014 says all it needs to:
“Officer Lang’s testimony differed from Officer Myers’ testimony. Officer Lang testified that she had a clear view of CardenasMuratalla and that when the officers spotted him, he was not doing anything suspicious with his hands and was not doing anything with his hands, body, or expression that raised her level of alarm. The officer testified that her suspicions were aroused only when CardenasMuratalla began to shuffle away and did not respond to Officer Myers’ direction to stop. She testified that CardenasMuratalla was talking on a cell phone as the officers approached and was still talking on the phone when he shuffled away.”
“The taser hit CardenasMuratalla’s left arm. After he had been hit, CardenasMuratalla turned around and headed away from Officer Lang and toward Officer Myers. As he walked, CardenasMuratalla kept his right hand down by his side, which Officer Myers thought was an attempt to pull a gun out of his clothing. Officer Myers shot CardenasMuratalla and he fell to the ground and was handcuffed. Officer Myers recovered a handgun from CardenasMuratalla’s front waistband. The gun was black, not silver as the 911 caller had described, and was not loaded.”
“Here, neither the informant nor the informant’s tip was reliable. The officers knew nothing about the 911 caller. The caller did not give his name, and the 911 operator was unable to reach the caller on a call-back. Further, the tip was not the report of any criminal activity. The informant said CardenasMuratalla showed him his gun, but that he (the informant) did not feel threatened. Carrying a firearm is a crime if it is carried or displayed in a manner that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons,20 or if it is willfully discharged in a place where there is a reasonable likelihood that humans, domestic animals, or property will be jeopardized.21 There is no evidence in the record that the 911 caller reported being intimidated or alarmed when the suspect showed him the gun or that the suspect discharged the gun or pointed it at anyone. In fact, the caller told the 911 operator, He didn’t threaten me. It’s just that he showed me. I seen it Just calling to tell you, just calling to tell you. That is the only evidence in the record about the emotional state of the 911 caller or about CardenasMuratalla’s actions that prompted the 911 call. The ti
